An 80-year-old woman in East Norwich received a call from Ahmaad Moore, of Queens, at approximately 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 18, Nassau County Police said.
Moore claimed that the woman's son was arrested overseas, required assistance and would need cash to be rescued, said police.
According to Nassau County Police investigators, when Moore arrived in a white vehicle at her home, his victim handed him an envelope with $30,000 cash inside.
Moore’s victim didn’t file a police report until she realized she was the victim of an elder scam, police said.
Following the investigation, Moore, 31, surrendered to detectives on Tuesday, Jan. 28. He was charged with third-degree grand larceny and scheme to defraud. He was scheduled to be arraigned later in the day in First District Court in Hempstead.
Investigators said that anyone who may have been scammed by Moore should contact the Nassau County Police Department by calling 911.
